Elvi Wines
Elviwines is a producer that makes wines from various regions in Spain. Albak, Furia and Adar come from the D.O. Ribera del Júcar. Ribera del Júcar is located in the province of Cuenca along the banks of the river Júcar and covers 7 municipalities. Grapes have been grown and wine produced in Ribera del Júcar for centuries but the D.O. status was only acquired in 2003, making the region the youngest D.O. in Spain.
The climate is Mediterranean continental with sharp contrasts between summer and winter temperatures. The average temperature is 24°Centigrades in summer and 5°Centigrades in winter. Rainfall is sparse with around 350 mm/year.
The area covered by the D.O. (9,141 ha) is located on a plateau of pebbly soil at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level along the banks of the River Júcar. The drainage is good and rainwater can penetrate through the top pebbly layer down to the clay subsoil where it is retained.
The traditional regional varieties in the area are Tempranillo and Bobal, recently Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet franc have been introduced.
Elviwines was started in 2002 by Anne & Moisés Cohen together with Josep Lluís Peréz & Montse Ovejero. Elvi Wines is a project that combines specific skills from a group of people who got together to try and use their own skills and make exceptional wines from their combined knowledge. Scientific research and practical analysis over 18 years, general wine experience, practical experience through the creation of high quality wines such as Cims de Porrera, Clos Martinet, Martinet Bru, Solanes and intimate knowledge of the vine, learning and understanding the vine behavior and response to external conditions is the background of this young venture; a combination of scientific, know how and empiric knowledge.
Enthusiastic about local grapes, of Mediterranean wines, with its special character and style, Elvi Wines has been looking and searching for new limits with diversity as a main objective. Elvi Wines produces wines in different regions in Spain; D.O. Priorat (770 & 770 Dolç), Ribera del Júcar (Albak, Ness, Furia, Adar) and Utiel-Requena (Makor).
The creation of outstanding and great wines at a good price is their main objective. Their aim is to produce wines that bring together the producer and the consumer and that represent with authenticity the different Spanish areas, and peculiarity of the wines.
