SPAIN
Grupo Galiciano- Alaia
Grupo Galiciano was started in 1995 by José Rodriguez and is made of several wineries in different regions of Spain. Each one of them having its own identity and planted with wine varietals proper to that specific area. The initial aim of the project was to recover and strengthen the indigenous varietals whilst revitalizing the magnificent area from Rias Baixas.
Dehesa de Rubiales is situated in the municipality of Fuentes del Ropel-Zamor in the Castilla y León appellation.
Many years of experience and trials and errors have brought Dehesa de Rubiales to create exceptional wines from this hostile and difficult land with an extreme climate. Prieto Pecudo is the best suited varietal for this area and it works tremendously well for blends. Alaia is a blend of three varietals each complementing one another. The Prieto Pecudo brings the bright red fruity character to the wine, Tempranillo the body and structure while the 5% Merlot soften and tame the other two.
The vineyards are situated in a semi desert land bringing life to this hot and dusty corner of Castilla y León.
Dehesa de Rubiales is one of the newest projects from Grupo Galiciano.
