Vineyard: Vineyards located around the town of El Masroig.
Soil Type: Mostly chalky & calcareous.
Vine Age: Old Grenache and Carignan vines, with younger Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.

The 2010 Castell de les Pinyeres is a blend of 40% Carignan, 40% Grenache and the 20% balance is made of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
This wine was made using traditional fermentation with indigenous yeast. The two typical regional grapes; Carignan & Grenache form the backbone of this wine, the addition of the other less traditional grapes impair the complexity to the wine.
Aged for 12 months in French (80%) and American (20%) used oak barrels. Aged further in the bottle.
Guía Peñin 2014 awarded this wine 91 Points and a 5 Stars.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Deep ruby with hints of purple on the rim.
Nose: Some red fruits and spicy aromas.
Palate: It is unctuous, rich notes of red berries and Morello cherry, well balanced, with great length and intensity. This wine is elegant and well structured.
Other: Castell de les Pinyeres will go well with a wide variety of winter dishes; guinea fowl and cherries, Shepherd's Pie, Persian lamb Tagine, any game dishes, grilled T-bone or rib eye steak.
