Viticulture

Vineyard: Situated in Falset on hilsides with a cool climate.
Soil Type: Mostly chalky and calcareous.
Vine Age: 20-50 years old.
Irrigation: No irrigation
Harvest Date: Between the 3rd week of September and the 3rd of October 2004.
Yield: 4 t/ha

Vinification:

Castell de les Pinyeres is a blend of 30% Carinyena, 45% Garnatxa and 5% Ull de Llebre and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. Ull de Llebre is the name given to Tempranillo in Catalan. .
This wine was made using traditional fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in oak barrels and bottled in April 2004.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Dark purple.
Nose: In the nose it shows some spicy wooden notes, intense minerals, forest floor and a very pleasant chocolate aroma with some red fruits in the back.
Palate: In the mouth it is lively, silky, with strong fruity flavors and well balanced. Red ripe fruits with a refreshing aftertaste.
Other: A beautifully balanced wine, with fine and soft tannins, it is best enjoyed with rich meaty dishes, the soft tannins make it very elegant.
