Les Sorts Jove
2005 Blend

Viticulture

Vineyard:
Soil Type: The soil is formed by the decomposition of the granite mass of Falset, mixed with tertiary age limestone deposits.
Vine Age: 8-20 years
Irrigation: No irrigation
Harvest Date: Between 2nd and 4th week of September
Yield: 5-5.5 t/ha

Vinification:

Les Sorts Jove is a blend of 10% Garnacha, 50% Cariñena, 20% Syrah and 10% Tempranillo.
This wine has been made using the Carbonic Maceration method which took seven days. Then the wine was pressed. Alcoholic fermentation was finished off without the skins in underground tanks.

Today Celler el Masroig uses two main methods of vinification.
Traditional fermentation begins when the bunches are destemmed at the winery. Alternatively, the bunches may be kept in tanks to allow carbonic maceration before pressing. The other method used is a low-temperature fermentation.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Clear and intense color; with a hint of blue and purple on the border, illustrating the body in the wine.
Nose: Fresh red and black aromas with flowery hints of violets. A very intense after smell in which the red fruit aromas re-appear.
Palate: Initially the fresh fruit flavors strongly express themselves followed by a growing reminder of licorice and tannin which illustrate the use of carbonic maceration.
